In Sept.2006 my dentist suggested that I consider a procedure to correct a minor cosmetic issue using Invisalign braces, The time frame was to be about a year to eighteen months. During this process he informed me that we would not be able to achieve the desired result without going into metal braces. I paid an additional fee and at the end of a couple of years I was very pleased with my teeth. I was instructed to use a retainer nightly which I was compliant in doing but the device didn't fit properly and the dentist decided to cut the ends off to remedy the problem. A very short time later my front bottom teeth canted backward and I developed a lisp . My dentist said that the only solution was to go back into metal braces. I was upset but at this point had no choice as I was lisping and had to tear my food as I could not bite into anything. After six total years in braces I now have no bite, only the very back teeth touch causing discomfort and the lisp is more pronounced. I have seen many dentist, orthodontist, and prosthodontist and all agree that my films indicate that my bite was fine when I started and that my treatment caused my problem. The various treatment plans to correct my discomfort are from $50, 000 to over $60, 000. When I discussed these numbers and options with my dentist I stated that I didn't feel that I should be responsible for this and he agreed but later was somewhat indignant that I felt that he should step up to the plate and at least help with the cost of my treatment. He then wanted to do the corrective work at no cost to me. He had offered no plan until he was told what others had proposed. I certainly have no intention of allowing this person to do anything more to my mouth. All agree that I have a mess... not easy to remedy. I do not think Dr. Jackson would offer to do $50, 000 in dental work if he didn't know that he created my problems. I have requested my initial impressions and they cannot find them. Other professionals have told me that they always keep these as it proves that they have done no harm. I have sought legal assistance from many sources and have been told that it is not profitable to take on dental cases as the cost of trying these types of cases is to high. What does a consumer do when I have proof (the original pictures) that I have had a huge injustice done to my and have no recourse. I have never sued anyone in my life but in this case I don't feel that Dr. Jackson should get by with wrecking my mouth and have no ramifications .I am quite sure that Dr. Jackson is very aware that the legal community would be a problem as his wife is an attorney. Where do I turn for help ? I am 66 years old and should not have to eat this kind of financial burden when I did everything he ask and even ask on numerous occasions if we were in over our heads ? He responded that he had the teeth in position once and could get them back there. Please help me in resolving this nightmare.
