Electronic key pad failed and they couldn’t care less

bought electronic wallsafe in nov 2011; it was installed in early 2012. it was fine until the batteries died. i went to change the battery and it is completely dead. they told me it is beyond warranty – but how are you to know that changing the battery will kill the mechanism until you need to change...
