Corporate/Branches MisInformation

1

Ever since Huntington took over First Merit in 2016 both my HELOC and checking accounts have been screwed up....Huntington did not transfer the correct terms and conditions of the HELOC into their system and tried to charge me a yearly maintenance fee (mortgage note clearly stated no annual fee) and there calculation of the variable interest rate was incorrect as well....When I tried to close my checking account in March the customer service rep indicated I must do that in person at a local branch, they can not do it out of Columbus HQ...Branches have been closed for the past 2 months in Illinois...so I cleared out the checking account in March and low and behold monthly service fees get charged to the account without me getting any text alerts on supposedly being overdrawn. Went to the branch nearest my house this morning after chatting with another customer service rep who agreed the fees should not be charged and waived them on the phone (now a 45 minute drive due to the branch closings by Huntington of old First Merit locations) and the branch manager would not let me in since I did not have an appointment...I was told specifically by a customer service rep this morning to go to the branch, no appointment needed. I raised *** called HQ and they called the branch manager...after a 10 minute wait standing outside the branch they finally let me in. Even then, it took them 15 minutes to close my checking account...this is nonsense....should all have been done over the telephone back in March..but even then they would not let me just send a letter to them requesting the account be closed...it had to be IN PERSON. Stupid. Chase and PNC Bank are are sooo much better. User's recommendation: Choose Any Other Bank Other Than Huntington.
