Great start, disastrous finish.

Shipped a single pallet of household goods, keepsakes and clothing to Romania from the US West Coast. I couldn't have asked for a more smooth transaction. The price was competitive; i was kept informed at all stages of the shipping; and the little shipment arrived at the destination a little ahead of time. I had pretty much liquidated all my belongings, and kept only the irreplaceable art, keepsakes, family photos, specialty kitchen items, and the best of my clothing, so the total weight was under 200 pounds, and consisted of only 26 boxes that all fit on one pallet. As life sometimes dictates, my plans were changed for me before the shipment arrived, so i attempted to arrange to return the un-opened, un-touched shipment from Romanian Customs, back to the US West Coast. I arranged for ShippingQuest to return the shipment, and was assured they would get back to me with a bid estimate. Meanwhile, Romanian Customs was charging a storage fee of 15 Euros/day, so i contacted ShippingQuest quite often, and was always assured that it was under control and that they were just waiting for Romanian "Agent" to contact them with the necessary customs details. The shipment over was so smooth that i had what turned out to be a very misplaced trust in the integrity and competency of this shipper. After repeated contacts produced only assurances and promises from the last of August, until the end of the year, i finally set out to try and contact Romanian Customs myself, just to see why my shipment was apparently being held up by them. I was also informed by ShippingQuest that i "must" send them the Customs storage fees, before they could process the shipment. (They'd already assured me twice that the shipment was "In Route" back to the US.) In January, i wired ShippingQuest $2,500.00 for the accumulated storage fees, in spite of thinking that these fees could have been far less, had they got on the phone with their "Agent", and got their act together. In February, i finally heard from Romanian Customs, and was informed that because the shipment was "abandoned" for over 90-days, it had been confiscated or destroyed by the Romanian government THE PRIOR NOVEMBER!!!, before ShippingQuest asked for the $2,500.00 the following December. I'm just an old guy on a fixed retirement income, or i would have sued. ...As it stands, their incompetency caused the loss of a lifetime's worth of keepsakes, photographs and art that are irreplaceable; my wardrobe, including fairly expensive suits and western hats; and all my medical, tax and personal records, ...and God knows what else. ...And to top it off, they basically defrauded me out of $2,500.00 in cash to supposedly pay storage fees for a shipment that they surely know had been destroyed 2-3 months earlier. An estimate of the value for what "was" replaceable in the shipment is +/- $15,000.00, not counting the $2,500.00 that they defrauded me out of. Would i ever use them again, or recommend them to a friend. .............Not just no, ...but H___ NO!!
