Living in a hotel for 3 weeks

1

We closed on our BRAND NEW D.R. Horton home on 6/5/20 with some of our closing day walk through items incomplete. We gave them an additional week but still some things werent done. We moved into our home on 6/13/20. Our first night in the house we noticed the downstairs toilet bubbling when the upstairs one was flushed. We messaged someone that Sunday morning. We could not shower, use the tub, or wash clothes without someone watching the downstairs to make sure it didnt flood the house. We had to chop up solid waste before flushing the downstairs toilet. We have two other bathrooms upstairs, however my elderly MIL is battling cancer and cannot easily navigate stairs. A plumber came by on Monday 6/15/20. Another plumber came out to confirm the issue on Tuesday 6/16/20. We did not hear from anyone regarding the next step so I emailed Wednesday 6/17/20 morning asking for a plan of action to be implemented by that evening. We did not receive a response until Thursday 6/18/20 morning. We moved out of the home and into a hotel on Friday 6/19/20 so that the repairs could begin. We are now entering WEEK 3 of being unable to live in our BRAND NEW DR Horton home. Our plumbing in the home is faulty and has to be replaced along with the flooring. They have cut a trench from the wall in the dining area through the kitchen. We are living in a hotel with 2 small children and a Cancer patient in the middle of a Global Pandemic that is getting worse in our area. We have emailed regarding concerns during the process several times. The issues brought up in my last two emails that expressed concerns regarding how the repairs are being handled have not been addressed. There has been a lack of knowledgeable, trained, and prepared workers that have lead to preventable delays. A worker was observed spitting inside the home. A gasoline saw was used without proper ventilation setting off the Carbon Monoxide detector. The solution to the detector that went off for over 45 minutes was to cover it in plastic. An inspector they called had to ask for a permit on two separate occasions before it was finally obtained on the third day after he threatened to shut down the process and issue a fine. Workers operated a saw that produces a high volume of water that was not removed from the home. This water has been allowed to sit with some of it seeping under the baseboards and into the garage. It is also under the cabinetry and refrigerator. Our furnishings and belongings have been sitting in an unairconditioned home during 95+ weather for 2 weeks with a now projected additional week before completion. THE LAST TIME WE CHECKED OUR HOME WAS AT A HUMIDITY LEVEL OF 67%. An indoor humidity level is too high when it's above 50%. At this level, your home is susceptible to increased dust mite infestations, as well as mildew, mold growth and other bacteria. This can cause serious health issues for those who breathe in mold spores or are exposed to bacteria for long periods of time. This is unacceptable! D.R.Horton plans to reinstall the cabinetry that has obviously been damaged during removal. This cabinetry is supposed to support a sink and granite countertop. We paid for brand new undamaged, structurally sound cabinets. The kitchen island was not removed but instead a trench was dug underneath it. There is now 6 inch portion that is hanging off the slab over the trench. Underneath is the jackhammered, jagged, uneven concrete slab. We have asked how is it possible to pour wet concrete under the drywall without any ill consequences in the future. How will this effect the structural integrity once the area settles in the future? This along with the damaged cabinetry that is to be reinstalling are supposed to support a granite countertop for years to come. The flooring that was used is thin vinyl sheet flooring that is directly glued to the slab with no padding. This same flooring is to be used again after the slab is repaired. It will definitely show any imperfections in the area of the foot wide trench that was repaired. This area extends through the living area into the kitchen. If it does not show through now it will when the area of new concrete settles. This will be very unsightly and unappealing to us while living in the home as well as to potential buyers in the future. We have seen this happen in another DR Horton home in our community that had a thicker, higher quantity vinyl floor than the ones installed in our home. We feel that concerns regarding these issues are being brushed aside and ignored. We put our trust in DR Horton to deliver on the promise of a quality built home. That promise should extend to the repairs that have to be made due to no fault on our part. Thus far this has been far from our experience. Our dream of being able to enjoy our beautiful new home has turned into a nightmare. There are several neighbors who have also had issues with their new homes.
