I went into the Dentsville SC branch and attempted to cash a $50.00 check that a business had written me on First Citizens bank account. Prior to the teller cashing the check for me I was asked if I had an account there which I replied yes but I didn't think I had to have an account there if the check was written on their bank to which she agreed. She then informed me that even though the check was dated 8-1-19 that I couldn't cash it until 8-2-19 which seemed odd to me but I didn't press the issue but instead asked her to deposit the check in my account (one which I had a greater balance than the check would amount to) and asked to withdraw $50.00. The teller then asked me if it would be ok with me to deposit $5.00 and give me $45.00 back instead of the $50.00 I had asked for. This whole ordeal was beginning to seem drawn out needlessly so I agreed and left. The more I thought about it the more I began to feel as if I had just been needlessly made to jump thru hoops for no good reason so I called the customer service dept. to ask if this was their policy to require this. They put me on hold and called the branch and then informed me that this particular business had an agreement with them not to cash one of their checks until a minimum of one day after the check was dated. She further admitted that the rest of what happened was unexplainable so I must only assume that this teller simply wanted to do what she wanted to do rather than what I had asked for to show her authority.
