Cannot use debit

I am trying to find somebody who can tell me why I cannot buy food with my debit card a necessity and this bank company does not have after our services this is completely unacceptable
Unnecessary fees without any prior notification. $70 I won’t be getting back. User’s recommendation: Go to a credit union
