Suspect Billing Practices
First of all the advertised price is not accurate. If you choose Magic Jack you will be billed for the cost of the unit as well as the $19.99 which is 39.99; they do not freely admit the additional cost. I expected to be billed $19.99 for the year. Untill the bank statement came in I didn't know there was an additional charge. Secondly, the functionality of the unit is terrible; you cannot use the phone and your computer at the same time. The amount of processor usage even when not using the phone is staggering, as it gobbles up the computers resources. If you are using the phone and try to open a window on your computer the whole thing goes haywire and crashes. Thirdly, what they don't tell you is that when you give them your account information for billing you are set to automattically renew in a year whether you use the unit or not. When mine was set to renew I went online and cancelled the account, unplugged the unit from my computer, and a month later was billed for another year of service, even though I cancelled the service and unplugged the unit. It is almost impossible to get ahold of a human being and they carefully guard their phone numbers which took me about an hour of research to obtain. They change the number constantly so contacting anyone with the company is difficult. Eventually, I did reach someone and they agreed to return my money but what a pain in the _ _ _. Don't give these people your money! My grandmother used to say, "if it sounds too good to be true it probably is." Grandma was right.
