Picked up 14 channels, but now picks up none; does nothing with the amplifier

I installed the antenna; it first got 14 channels; Each channel search gave me less channels. None I get none. Also, the amplifier does nothing. It came with no directions on its installation. Where does one install it. I put it in the only slot on my TV that would take it. I am at silviej4@***.com
