Illegal Hold of Vehicle

1

A nice vacation with friends went bad when my teenager left her car at a PUBLIX parking lot in Fort Lauderdale. It got towed within 8 hours. When she went to retrieve the vehicle, the tow company SONIC LOCK N TOW refused to release the vehicle to her because the title was in her parents name due to her being too young to buy a car and not having adequate financial credit as a new freshman college student. Both parents worked for over 5 hours calling and sending any documentation that may be needed for the tow company to release the car so that our daughter was not stranded 13 hours away from her residence. We, her parents, living in another state, sent pictures of our driver’s license, insurance cards, willing to send the title of the car and sent via email the tow companies notarized hold harmless form releasing the tow company from any liability signed by me the owner and notarized. The towing company would not accept any of this. They require the owners to either be there in person or have an original hold harmless form mailed in or driven to them. My teenager was refused her car for spent 24 hours without concern to her being without transportation, room or much money. User's recommendation: Make sure you only drive a car that your name is on the title in Fort Lauderdale, FL or you too may find yourself stranded.
