Horrible Dr. George John Rodriguez

1

I went to Scripps Emergency Room on Friday, October 11, 2019, after I got a palm tree needle stuck in my eye while gardening. I pulled it out and went to the emergency room. Unfortunately, I went to Scripps Emergency Room in Encinitas, and was seen by a shocking doctor named George John Rodriguez. I cannot imagine why he is a doctor, why your customers are exposed to someone like him, and why he is so angry, vindictive and feels he has the right to walk up and down the emergency room halls shouting about me. His behavior and manner were very disturbing. First, he seemed so inept in his examination. He tried to use a machine to look into my eye and seemed to have no idea how to use it. He said he would give me a prescription. I asked that he have someone call in the prescription as it was late, and I wanted to start the medication that evening. This was a very minor request. He said CVS pharmacy was closed and that I could get the prescription the next day. I told him I had already called CVS and that they were open until 9 p.m. I had to be at work the next day at 8 a.m., so it was important to me to start the antibiotics that evening. He left without saying anything. After an extended period, someone came into the exam room and gave me a paper script. I indicated Dr. Rodriguez was going to call it in so I could start the antibiotics right away. This is why I sought medical help. She said he indicated to her to give me a paper script. I then asked he to have a nurse to just call in the prescription so I could get the medication I needed tonight. Otherwise, it might have been until Monday, two days away, until I would be able to start the antibiotics, with limited pharmacy weekend hours. She expressed frustration and said she would have to get Dr. Rodriguez to rewrite the prescription. She said it like it was going to be a big effort on her part. If they got it right the first time, this would not be necessary. I again waited an extended period of time. I finally walked outside of the exam room. Evidently Dr Rodriguez. refused to rewrite the prescription to a call in so I could start the antibiotics asap. I started thinking this was becoming vindictive on his part, and he started to escalate the situation in front of staff. How dare I asked him to call in a prescription after this ego-inflated doctor wrote a paper script. When I looked down the hallway, he was leaning over the counter ranting to a clerk. I called to him and asked him to have someone call in the prescription, and that I needed to leave to get to the pharmacy before they closed. He walked toward me shouting and causing a scene in a public area. What is going on here? He walked past me into an open alcove down the hallway and continued shouting about me. Numerous people, medical and non-medical people were within earshot. He just sat in the alcove doing nothing but badmouthing me. Evidently, he had called the charge nurse and was waiting for her to arrive. He then walked to the counter when she arrived and loudly complained to her. He seemed to forget that he was in a public place and was there to treat patients. Too bad if an emergency case came in. He was totally immersed on loudly complaining about me. He seemed unable to control his anger, which is a very serious trait for anyone in the medical field. This was ridiculous – over his refusal to call in a prescription? I had also asked to sign a release of information while I was there so I could get a copy of the test results, ophthalmologist consult notes, Dr Rodriguez’s notes, etc. He refused, saying I could look at the summary I would be given. I said that was fine, but that I needed a complete copy of the visit. He said he doesn’t do that and that I should talk with someone else about it. He then made an insulting face to me, turned on his heel and walked out without another word. Is this an emergency room or a 7th grade out of control classroom? There seem to be a myriad of problems in the Scripps Encinitas er. The charge nurse came over to me and apologized. The clerical person who saw me came over and cried out that I cursed at her and that she felt threatened. By that time, I had had enough. I asked her what curse words I said, and she couldn’t tell me. If an er clerk felt threatened at the thought of calling in a prescription and providing a release of information form, maybe she is in the wrong job. Likewise, Dr. Rodriguez seems obsessed with “getting even” with any patient. Maybe he should have gone into research. I left, got the prescription filled and went home. I chalked it up as I stumbled on a very bad place to seek medical help, and noted that I would never return. Until I looked at Dr. Rodriguez's summary in my medical record this morning. It was so egregious and dishonest. His behavior was unprofessional and aggressive. Dr. Rodriguez continued his vindictiveness in writing a dishonest, hostile, and disgusting paragraph full of lies and vindictiveness. He has to make up lies? I know I cannot get medical records until I request them in writing. He lied. I was not belligerent. He lied. I did not call him a liar. He lied. He didn’t lie – he was just a vindictive shouting employee. I did call him rude. I told him he was vindictive. I told him I was shocked that he refused to call in a prescription, I told him he was unprofessional to be walking around the er shouting about me and violating my privacy. He was the one who was shouting. He explained nothing. The abuse was his. In addition, he continued escalating this incident instead of demonstrating any level of skill and ability to work with patients. I was treated in a rude and abusive manner by Dr. Rodriguez. When staff saw his disrespect, they joined in and received his approval when they did so. I have never called anyone stupid. I do think he is incompetent and seemed to be comfortable with his behavior and lies. I imagine he has gotten away with his behavior and manner before. This is what this doctor wrote: “2030: It should be noted that after the encounter while the patient was waiting for her discharge papers the patient became very belligerent with staff and myself. Patient was upset that we could not give her, her medical records today. It was explained to the patient that this could be obtained Monday through medical records. At that point time the patient started to call me a liar and called me rude and a number of other insulting terms. Patient raised her voice a number of times. I tried to explain to the patient that we had no control of her medical record. She once again called me a liar. In addition the patient was abusive to nursing staff and myself calling us stupid and rude. It should be noted at no point in time was anybody rude to the patient. No one raised ther voice to the patient. The patient insisted on being belligerent and boisterous outside room #2. Everyone tried to de-escalate the patient but she seemed intent on trying to obtain a belligerent response from staff. At that point in time I elected to ask the unit supervisor to speak to the patient which she did. The patient subsequently left the emergency department” This was all unbelievable. Why does Scripps employ these kinds of people? We go to a facility to get medical help and are met with vicious verbal attacks, truly vindictive behavior and a condescending and demeaning manner. Why? When I seek medical help, I expect competence, concern, honesty, respect, and no egos or vindictiveness. I found just the opposite last night. It is time for the medical community to weed out employees who treat patients like garbage and think they are above treating their customers with skill, concern, respect, dignity and compassion. I hope I don’t get a reply supporting their behavior. I did look online at reviews for Scripps Emergency room, and they are dismal and embarrassing. It is way past time for them to listen to their customers. That arrogant code of silence, closing ranks, or the “blame the victim” gottcha responses never did work. Employees are not selfless. I observed them as self-serving who lack social and medical skills. Social media is full of reviews like mine. People are just tired of the disrespect and arrogance. When will change come? As a last vindictive shot, Dr. Rodriguez called security who appeared in what looked like riot gear. Really? I am a 73-year-old female doctor. If a doctor in my field of practice conducted him or herself in such an unprofessional manner, they would be dismissed or relegated to a desk job. Patients should be protected from these people. Pitting patients against your employees is unacceptable. These people should leave their attitudes and big egos at the front door when they work with patients. I want that paragraph removed from my record. I want something done about Dr. Rodriguez. To be fair, I will wait to post about this unfortunate situation on social media until I hear from Scripps. Sincerely,
