Worst customer resolution ever

Recieved a pair Rockport XCS hiking style shoes for Christmas from my mother in law in Pennsylvania; we live in Alabama. Initially loved the comfort and style of the shoe; however one of the eyelets broke the 2nd time I wore them. I called Rockporrt customer dis-service and they refused to help me until I provided the date of purchase, purchase price, and where they purchased. I was willing to send in the product for examination prior to replacement; was told no. I did not want anything other than a replacement pair, but until I interrogated my mother in law about the 'high end' pair of shoes she gave me for christmas, they refused to help me. Even worse, they want me to go to the retail location to return them in Pennsylvania, even though I live in Alabama, once I had the information...... I have spent well over $1,000 in Rockport brand shoes over the last 5-7 years, but it sounds like I need to re-evaluate my brand loyalty. They wouldn't even allow me to talk to a supervisor. I was sent a form through the email instead......
