Thinking of Switching to Sterling? Fuhgeddaboudit.

First , many thanks to the reviewers here who gave tips on how to navigate the system that former Astoria Bank customers were forced to switch over to. I finally was able to access online banking today using Sterlingconnect with my older desktop computer. It took them a few weeks to correct all the programming errors. I still don't know enough about protecting myself from fraud via mobile banking, so I am sticking with my trusty desktop machine running Norton. I've been through two hostile takeovers. I also know know the tremendous amount of work required to migrate to a new computer system. You need people with fire in their belly to do it right. The people now working at Sterling don't have it anymore. Sterling has been buying up banks left and right, shedding employees at each stop. Why break your chops? Once people here helped me get online banking to work, I called Sterling's present customer service number, which can be conveniently remembered as 1-800-ASTORIA. I told the people what my now-former problem was, and asked how to fix it. They couldn't tell me. You can expect Jack to buy more banks. Or maybe someone will buy his bank. Each time, there will be more fun-and-games with trying to get your transactions processed correctly with each succeeding migration. I'm staying with Sterling for now, mostly because of a package deal that really suits me. Everything is direct deposit, which works pretty good. I don't relish having to change over all my direct deposits and auto bill pays. But I wouldn't recommend anyone looking for a new bank to stop here. Find someone else with greater stability potential. September 18, 2018.
