Words cannot convey how bad my experience with Jeep Essendon has been. Do not go there. I took my Jeep Wrangler in for its 48,000 km service. While Essendon Jeep had the car they decided to undertake safety recall works (without asking me) which involved checking/replacing the steering column clockspring, steering wheel back cover and steering column shrouds. When I picked up the car I noticed the digital compass was no longer working - two electronic dashes appeared on the display where the compass direction used to be. I took the car back and after a number of days was told that it was ready for collection. The problem wasn't fixed, but I was informed that because I had put an after market radio/satellite navigation unit in the car that the compass would not have been able to work after the original unit was removed. I pointed out that the unit had been replaced some time ago and the compass had been working fine until the car was serviced. Apparently the tech expert at Jeep said that was impossible. The inference being I must be a liar. Then there was a $170 charge for calling me a liar. If you're wondering why I changed the original radio/satellite unit it was because the factory fitted one never worked properly - $2,000 well spent. For instance, driving from Geelong to Ballarat the navigation system thought diverting via Melbourne was a better option. I complained but got nowhere. I completed a lengthy customer survey from Jeep and invited them to contact me, but didn't hear from them. When I took the car in for its penultimate service I pointed out that paint was coming off the roof. The diagnosis was bird lime being left on the paintwork. I pointed out that paint was coming off on vertical areas of the roof - very hard for a bird to deposit there. I took the car for inspection at a repairer and Jeep were going to come back to me. Guess what, they didn't. In short, don't buy a Jeep and save yourself a lot of grief.
