Sim locking a phone that does not and never did belong to them

2

I purchased an iPhone XR from Best Buy. At the time of purchase I had Sprint. Shortly after I changed my service to Cricket Wireless with no issues. Now I am attempting to change to a new carrier and Cricket has sim locked my phone to their carrier. They claim that Apple must release it. I have contact Apple (twice actually) and they say when a phone is purchased outright without a carrier, they cannot and do not have the ability to lock it. Cricket finally admitted they did it and they should not have done it but now 3 days in and they cannot get it unlocked so that I can actually use my phone with the new carrier. I get the same "script" answers from every person I talk to, including supervisors. I know that the fact that I call very often to check on it probably makes them mad but for 3 days they still say it's "under investigation" which means they have done nothing. So I truly want to file a lawsuit for the time I've missed from work (as this is my sole work phone) and frustration of getting the run around daily.
