Payment of goods online

2

I have complained for a number of years that Boots is the only retailer I know of that won't let the customer use their reward points to pay for goods if the cost is higher than the points value. This is complete madness and unbelievably irritating which regularly sends me to shop elsewhere. Sainsbury's, Tesco & M & S have no issue with using the points & topping up with cash / card. It does mean that unless I am very lucky the balance will never be down to NIL as the chances of buying goods to the exact amount is remote. That aside (but not forgotten) today I wished to purchase an item to be delivered. I have 1536 points on my card and the item costs £40. I go to the Advantage tab to be informed 'You don't have enough Boots Advantage Card points to cover the total cost of your order.' I need 4000 points. Ludicrous. OK I think I'll use the 2 Giftcards I have to the value of £30 and pay the rest by card - Oh no wait - once again Boots is so 19th century that I am not allowed to do that either. I can of course use these in-store - hmm that defeats the object of buying online and also - oh right COVID-19 rules state I should only make necessary journeys. What is so special about Boots that you treat customers like this - if you don't want us to use our points why bother giving them to us in the first place? I am absolutely gobsmacked at your complete lack of customer service in this day and age. I am sure you won't go out of business, but I will not put you as my number one choice for toiletries as there is no 'Advantage' in using your loyalty cards. I am interested in the 'reasons' you have for being so high and mighty that the queries I raise are probably so stupid that why can I not see that you are doing me a service. I await your reply User's recommendation: Do not use Boots Advantage card as a loyalty card unless you always want to spend less than you have earned.
