Non existent after sales service

I own a 4 year old Panerai Luminor GMT. The barrel/pin holding the strap to the steel case falls out as the locking mechanism has failed. I live in Thailand where there is just one 'official' Panerai repair shop but they won't touch it under any kind of service warranty. They tell me I have to pay which they tell me will be just over US $3000. Surely a watch of this stature is protected by warranty of some kind? The Panerai website is of no use as I cannot elicit any practical help. Does anyone have any advice in repairing the watch? Many thanks.
