No receipt return but was not allowed to return the items

I tried to return some items in store to Eddie Bauer and was told I was not able to because I have lost my receipt nor am I a loyalty member, but I was never informed of the loyalty program User's recommendation: Make sure you do not lose your receipt and make sure you are aware of the loyalty program they have or you will lose out on money and merchandise.
