Make sure to read the fine print!

My girlfriend just paid off a loan from them that she got a few years back. Nickled and dimed her in shady ways to make an unfavorable loan downright terrible. Interest rate was high but then they sneak things in there that make it more profitable for them. - sold her life and disability insurance and a roadside assistance service. Casually suggested that it was required though the contract says it isn’t. This added like 700 to the loan amount - interest is precalculated. States there is “no penalty” for paying early (no *** This means that even if you pay the loan off early, you are responsible for 100% of the interest based on the original payment schedule! This is significantly worse than “rule of 78” which at least gives you a (small) refund if pay early -they send offers for more money. This is just a bigger loan to pay off the original loan + get you some cash. This gives them a chance to tack on their bs insurance products, and change the fine print to make the terms worse. This gets you hooked for more money. -my gfs loan was secured by her car. The value they appraised it at was like 2000 below the blue book value. So if she defaulted, they’d make a straight up profit simply selling her car based on the market value and their appraised value... on top of the payment of the principal and interest Their whole business model is to find people in rough financial situations and head fake them into signing loan agreements that are worse than they look on the surface. You could say that these guys are serving a financially risky group so what they do is okay. BUT if that’s the case, just have a higher APR and why sneak in the unfavorable terms in the contract? The answer is that it’d then be clear how much they are profiting from borrowers and people wouldn’t take the loans. Obviously everyone’s situation is different and what they do could work for you. Just read the fine print and don’t let them gloss over the details or pressure you into agreeing!
