On May 11, 2019 I booked a room at the Travelodge at 201 West Glenwood Ave, Turlock, California 95380. I was given the key to a room that was dirty, noisy, and there was vomit on the sidewalk before the door. I went back and asked for another room. The attendant gave me a key to an upstairs room that had a big hole in the wall where the TV presumably had once been, lights that didn't work, and it was not adequately cleaned - the room smelled filthy. Although the sheets looked like they had been laundered, the pillows had stained covers on them with hair which clearly indicated they had not been washed. I could not stay in such a disgusting room, and asked for my money to be refunded. The clerk said he was refunding the money to my credit card and I left. I then went further down the road and took a room that night in a Motel 6. I found that the Travelodge attendant had, in fact, refunded the room to my credit card and then gone ahead and re-charged it, which was a fraudulent charge. I disputed it with my credit card company, demonstrating that I had taken a Motel 6 room within an hour of the previous Travelodge charge, and then cancelled the card, concerned that the people at the Travelodge might try to further compromise it. When I returned in the morning to speak to the unhelpful people at the Travelodge, they just kept repeating "must speak to manager", although they were unable to give me any indication as to when or where that manager might be. It is my intention to also contact the health department at Turlock, as that hotel, which charges some 60.00 + a night, is filthy.
