Chainsaw locked; cannot figure out how to disengage lock.

While sawing, the chainsaw shut down. I pushed the safety guard forward, checked fuel & chain oil - almost out of chain oil. I refueled, added chain oil & it will not start. Also, the safety guard will now not move- - it is locked in the forward position. Please assist, my neighbors tree is in the street (blown down) & they are out of town. Thank You
