Ageism / age discrimination by Doctor
3
A 74 yr. old client reports that she was ignored & talked over by her PCP who spoke only to her Guardian about possible need to move to Asst. Living or Adult Family Home services. Kathy said "Oh, I think that sad..." & the Doctor talked to the Guardian only saying "She (Kathy) won't remember that..." Kathy does have Dx of dementia, but she is only in the early stages of the disease & was tracking perfectly with their discussion. This was very offensive to Kathy & demeaning of her & she wants Van Clinic to change this behavior. Kathy is requesting another PCP now as she doesn't feel she can work with this PCP any longer. "I don't think I can trust her with my care when she dismisses me like this. I'm an adult & would like to be treated as one. I've since called her "Dr. Tarantula" to my family at home & cried about being treated so disrespectfully. I wanted to tell her "I hope you get treated this way when you get older so you know what it feels like..." Thank you for addressing this concern...
