CHUB Insurance payment system penalizes consumers
CHUBB Insurance's new electronic system for credit card payment mysteriously switched from the one payment plan to an installment plan, which carries extra charges. The single payment plan does not charge finance fees. A CHUBB financial services person walked me through the set up of the annual method. After it was ready to go, the annual payment was made. But the system reverted to the installment plan, giving CHUBB those extra fees. CHUBB admits "start-up problems" with its new payment system. It will cancel the extra fees. Or try. Why am I pissed? First, the CHUBB system transform "Service" into "Do It Yourself Service." When it screws up, the consumer must fix it or pay for it. Second, the insurance industry spends millions to lobby against government regulations that the industry claims would lead to waste and inefficiency. Or am I missing something: Is CHUBB already a government agency?
