Defecive bread machine

Received as a Christmas gift. Am using it for first time. Discarded the box and directions as this is my second bread machine. The motor sounds as if running but doesn’t turn the spatula mechanism. I have turned off…turned on and made absolutely sure its firmly clicked into place.
