I just set up new service and made it VERY CLEAR that I did not want my information shared with anyone outside of Duke Energy - and that I did not want to participate in any marketing. I was forwarded to "step 2" - which I was told, upon questioning, was necessary to complete my account setup. I AGAIN made it clear that I did not want to participate in any marketing and I was specifically told/ reassured (upon questioning) by the representative that my information would NOT be shared with anyone outside of Duke Energy - and within minutes of the call, I received three separate emails - ALL OF WHICH were from companies outside of Duke Energy - sent to be "for my upcoming move" via Duke Energy. This is clear deception and against my privacy rights.
