Well Visits are not guaranteed at 100% –very nuanced

1

My husband and I had our annual Well Visit appointments in February. We understood from our insurance statement that this is covered at 100% and any "preventative service, procedure or office visit is covered at 100%. WE are being charged for the labs. I contested and the finance department has determined that they are coded correctly. I have learned that when in an office appointment with the Dr., whether a scheduled "well visit" or not, any discussion or change in procedure, or change in where the discussion leads in diagnosing, or the time limit on the appointment, can affect the service visit and the coding of the visit. In other words, it is very nuanced and not very transparent to the patient. The finance department says that this is outlined in the consent form that you have to sign so I will request one and read it over carefully. We are being charged for labs on our well visit--that we shouldn't have to pay. I never have before. I don't trust this Dr. , her office or Vancouver Clinic for that matter. Now I'm on alert. I'm deciding on whether I should bring this issue to my State Representative. Very angry indeed!
