Return of Premium

I cancelled my insurance due to buying a new car and changing insurance companies. I gave the car to a family member and called within hours of signing over the title and them obtaining coverage with their insurance carrier. My first call- I was redirected that my request had to be in writing and was directed to the chat feature on the website. I was able to get it cancelled but for 3 days of coverage they were only going to refund $19.52 of a $77.83 premium (taken out of my account a day early the day before). I asked how the figure was calculated and could not be told. I asked to speak someone who could tell me and was directed to the 1-800 number. I called that number and after explaining the situation, I was put on hold and then hung up on. I called again, and while the 3rd customer service representative was very empathetic and knowledgeable, the policy does in fact rip you off. So after 12 years with progressive without a problem, they want to charge me over $50 to cancel my policy. So I stopped payment and disputed the payment with my bank and cancelled my other policies as well. Mind you all this took the better part of 2 hour. Lesson learned- Find a local agent who can give you better service and a lower premium. User's recommendation: Find a local agent that can give you better service and a better deal.
