Refuse to honor gift certificate

My son bought $50 gift cert a few years ago and just recently found it. Went to Walmart in Galveston and presented it. Owner refused to honor it saying it was not hers. It had the business card stapled to it, but apparently she took over business from previous owner. There is no expir date and by Tx law when you buy a business you accept assetts and liabilities.
