Poor service and parts knowledge.

Broke a promise Friday night. Swore I'd never deal with advance auto after a multitude of screwed up parts orders. However I noticed I had a low beam headlight bulb burned out...against my better judgment I pulled into a nearby advance auto, Volunteer Parkway, Johnson City, Tennessee...after all how could they possibly mess up selling me the correct low beam bulb for a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500. I told them the year, make and model and stressed it low beam.. Looking it up on the computer the clerked produced the bulb, I paid for it and drove home. The next day when I went to install the new bulb..(not the easiest thing to do on the passenger side)..anyway after removing the air filter housing I managed to remove the burned out bulb. I unpackaged the new bulb and attempted to install it but it would not plug in..it was then I noticed that also it appeared exactly like the old bulb the connector inside was different. As frequently happens with Advance auto they sold me the wrong part. I took the bulb to an Advance closer to home for an exchange or refund. Yes, it was unpackaged but unused. The clerks at the Erwin, Tenn Advance auto refused a refund or exchange..(no I did not have the receipt) but the transaction is on my bank card and they have no trouble identifying me with my phone number and email. Anyway I left the bulb laying on the counter, told them to keep it..no refund, no exchange..I went two blocks down the road to AutoZone, the clerk immediately identified the bulb..(without a computer)..I purchased it, went home and installed it. Perfect fit. I've gotten so many messed upupnon orders from Advance auto over the years I swore I'd never buy another product from Advance. Should have known better. Advance apparently thinks its customers have nothing better to do than make repeated visits to the store to return the wrong or non working parts. Never again, I know my complaint means nothing to corporate or the local store but there you have it, at least one former customer who has finally learned a lesson. I'll pass by a hundred Advance Autos before I ever walk thru those doors again.
