missed christmas

1

On the 19th of December 2016, I was supposed to fly from Johannesburg - O.R Tambo - to Athens - El. Venizelos - with a stop in Cairo. Unfortunately - and besides leaving home 2 hours prior to the flight - the 18 minute drive to the airport, turned to 1, 5 hours due to rain and an accident. I arrived 8 minutes later for check-in and besides the legitimate excuse, I respected the rules and "missed" the flight. Immediately I tried to contact Egyptair offices to reschedule. Spoke with an agent - from the offices in Jan Smuts - and re booked (after obviously paying the penalty) for the 24th. This would ensure I would be home for Christmas! Arriving at the airport at 20:00 by the check-in stall, I was approached by a gentleman, who too was denied boarding, for help. Surprise! After 40mins of searching, because they couldn't trace my ticket number?!, it was found that I was a no-show! For the 23rd!!! In all my frustration and disappointment, I kept a straight face to proceed and resolve the issue at hand. Running up and down the airport for 6km, searching for the Egyptair offices. ** All information stalls and airport employees sent me to the Menzies offices, where I suspect I met the ticketing agent. Not very helpful to put it nicely, but I understand and respect everyone has to be home for Christmas. ** I spoke to the manager of Egyptair offices in Jan Smuts, who was the ONLY person who knew where the Egyptair offices in the airport are. He also seemed understanding and helpful admitting to the confusion, but later proved to be a whole different story. At 22:20 the offices opened their door. Having me and my friend seated at an empty desk, for them to first hold a meeting, so we waited for another 20mins. I was introduced to someone who would assist me with the issue, but only the next day, as the ticketing agent works on a different-hour schedule and was let go at 22:00 (even though the office only opened at 22:20) Being advised to be at the airport at 18:00 to re-issue a ticket which admittedly, by the staff, as I have written proof, was Egyptair's fault - I admitted to mine and paid the cost. Being Christmas - and having spent one of the two biggest holidays of my religion and tradition, away from home, family and friends because of a "mistake" - I asked for the agents number, who reassured me (one of the many people that did), my issue would be resolved. Calling up the agent today, some surprising things came to surface. Apparently he was told I was late for my flight. Upon further discussion and to make a long story short, I presented the facts and papers. Shocked to say the least, he offered as much help as he could, confirming a solid case of Egyptair's mistake. He though cannot assist or take action in any way. This has been my experience with Egyptair thus far. P.S #1 I have all necessary documents and names involved which are not mentioned for obvious reasons P.S #2 This is the first time I resolve to "complaint" online P.S #3 To all my friends and family, this is why I haven't got the chance to post wishes https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1538989882783839&id=126495567366618&notif_t=like&notif_id=1482696968436363&ref=m_notif P.S #4 I have yet to receive any answers after emailing head offices, as advised
