Left a $500 package with no signature in the open even though we purchased insurance.

I purchased an item from Brazil and paid for the insurance to make sure that it safely gets into my hand without getting lost or stolen. The item was $500, and we paid for everything needed to have it insured. 2 weeks go by and the delivery date keeps changing. I get that I'm from US and shipping from Brazil to US can take quite awhile but if DHL says it will be shipped to me in 1 week and will arrive on Monday then that's what I expect. I called off work to make sure I will be there to sign off on the package. Monday comes, no package. Okay that's fine with me. They move it to 3 days later. Okay called off work again and waited. No package again. Now I'm getting a bit frustrated cause not only am I losing money and vacation days, but I'm losing it for nothing. DHL moved the shipping date back even more. About a week this time, so here I am again. Called off work, at home waiting for the package. No package again. By now, I've used up quite a bit of vacation days and need to keep the rest for actual vacation days with my family, so I stop calling off. Instead, I tell my mom if she can take off to get the package, and she said that's fine. Day comes around again for the package to be delivered. Nothing. I come home and check the tracking again. It says delivered. I asked my mom if she heard anything, she said no she's been home all day and nothing came. No knocking on the door, no ringing the bell, no signature, no phone call, nothing. Now that really kinda ticked me off. Package says delivered but where. We insured it so it was only to be delivered with a signature and I'm near positive they won't give it to someone that just happens to stroll by the house and say they lived there. I contacted them for several weeks along with the seller and the best they said was, "I do apologize to inform you, but per our delivery station, the driver did go to the correct address. The delivery station has closed the investigation and confirmed with the GPS that the driver was at the correct address. If you believe this shipment was stolen or if you still do not have the package, please contact your shipper moving forward. You can file a claim with them, and they should be able to send you a replacement or refund. I apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused you. I will be closing the inquiry with no further follow up." okay now hold on. When I asked for a proof of delivery, they gave me a paper saying it just been delivered. There's no signature, no picture of my front porch with the package, nothing but a paper saying delivered. I called and said hello, I need better proof of delivery or anything. They started asking ME the questions to get what my front porch looks like. Why are they asking me what my front porch looks like if they delivered and should remember what it looks like? They asked what the color my door was and if I had a mat in the front. I felt like they were asking me to get information to tell the delivery driver what to say when asked if he remembered my front porch. Now I'm out $500 and I feel terrible to ask for a refund because he did send me everything, kept up with me, and it's not the his fault but rather DHLs. User's recommendation: Pay for insurance and protection if you DON'T want insurance.
