GE fridge a piece of junk

We bought a new refrigerator at home depot. It crashed as soon as the ONE YEAR warranty expired. So we had to spend another $700 for a new one. Why can't a company like GE produce a product that lasts for an extend period of time. Once again the consumer gets screwed....
