Examine all practical loan alternatives before signing a contract with Lending Club

1

Let me say at the outset that I do not claim that The Lending Club has engaged in any illegal business practices. But based on my experience with this company I have found their information to be misleading and their customer service department to be unresponsive. Each month, when I receive my Lending Club bill, it has been my intention to attach the this statement to this LC request form. Likewise it was my intention to post this statement to both my Facebook and Twitter accounts in an effort to caution potential borrowers to examine any Lending Club contract they might be about to sign, specifically in the areas of 'up-front' costs and 'payment flexibility' Lending Club claims to offer.Medical circumstances (I was diagnosed with stage 1 heart failure a year ago), have prevented me from completing my monthly objectives, but as my health improves I intend to pick up where I left off. Again I reiterate that the following comments reflect only my opinion which is based on my experiences with Lending Club: To anyone who is considering a Lending Club Loan I feel compelled to say that my experience with LC has been completely different from those (positive responses) posted on LC's Facebook page. For me LC has been little more than the proverbial "snake oil salesman" hawking his "come-on" solutions from the back of a broken down wagon. I was desperate and LC seemed to be offering a way out of my critical financial circumstances (circumstances for which I take full responsibility). But later I realized that the online presentation - with its (what I consider to be) masked costs - was at best, misleading, and at worse, potentially fraudulent. I (more specifically, my ego) selected a payment schedule that was more than I could comfortably handle. This should have been obvious to me, and, in retrospect, to a LC customer representative. It wasn't long before it became clear that the monthly payments of my loan were so costly to me that they only added to my financial problems. On the basis of their claim to be available to assist customers with any problems they might be facing, I contacted LC and asked them if it might be possible to renegotiate the length of the loan (that is to say, the "term" of the loan, not the amount to be repaid) so as to reduce my monthly payment costs. Their response was: "Why don't you apply for another loan?" I think It was at that moment it became clear to me that LC's primary - if not singular - objective is to make as much money as possible with little or no regard to the circumstances of the individual borrower. I have been, in their words, "...a great customer." Since 04/2017 I have not missed a payment (actually, I've been on "autopay" so I haven't had much choice). As of this date, Nov. 21st,2019, I have balance of $1,526.12 to pay and frankly, given unexpected medical costs, I don't know if I'm going to be able to fulfill that that obligation. I have contacted a bankruptcy lawyer for advice. I have also previously informed LC of how desperate my situation is and, again, their online response is: "Thanks for being an ideal customer, DOUGLAS! Here's a special invitation to apply for another loan." Consequently, I will continue to recommend that anyone considering a LC loan, have both a financial and legal expert closely examine the LC contract. My bad decisions are mine and my proposed solution, as stated above, was not to avoid paying my balance, but rather to extend the term of the loan agreement so that my monthly payments could be reduced. I am happy for the folks who have had positive experiences with LC. Nonetheless, and without hesitation, I am warning all potential clients to be very careful before signing a contract with the Lending Club. Doug Wild (Member Loan ID_XXXXX6442)
