We are over three year customers of the River Grove IL facility. It was well managed and clean when it first opened but soon went downhill with a revolving door of employees. We were making our payments including rent raises but were denied access to our unit for nearly a year because of computer issues. They were not applying our payments. They were holding cashier's checks but not applying them to our account in order to try to get high late fees. When we finally were able to access our unit, we discovered an extreme rodent infestation. Much of our belongings were covered in rodent droppings and chewed by the rodents. There was also flooding and water damage. The facility is a regular on the local papers police blotter also. We were told by Eric Lungren the district manager that we were getting free months of rent to make up for all the mess and mismanagement. We told him due to our heavy work schedule and the fact we have to sanitize everything coming out of the facility that we would need ample time to remove our belongings. My spouse and me are disabled seniors and have health concerns. Eric was insistent that we remove our things during the pandemic quarantine when that was illegal to do since storage facilities were not on the essential business list. Not to mention unsafe for high risk individuals like us. We also are having a hard time finding disinfectant during the pandemic. We against our better judgement went during this pandemic to clear out our unit. I have one very small load yet to remove but Eric is now trying to get us to pay money that we do not owe the facility, after telling Village of River Grove officials he would give us time to get our belongings out due to the many extenuating circumstances. Damage to our property is well over four thousand dollars including sentimental value as well. Compass Self Storage has put us through a lot of heartache and expense. User's recommendation: Run far away from Compass Self Storage.
