Warning – Last minute extra charges and cancellation

I assisted my daughter in deciding to use Caliber Moving Co to locally move a refrigerator from her old home to a new home in Georgetown, TX. I encouraged her to go with the $250 quote Caliber provided after she provided accurate pickup and delivery addresses. On the scheduled day for the move a pickup was setup from 11am to 2pm. After 2pm, the manager sent my daughter a text that they were running late and that they would also be charging her an extra $35 for a fuel charge and asked whether she still wanted to proceed. She texted back that the fuel charge was never discussed previously and the $250 quote should be honored and, if not, she would include the last minute added charge in her post move review. The owner then texted back that they will not serve her and to get somebody else. Unscrupulous movers use the last minute charge additions as most customers have a time element that the move has to be completed. Some will even add charges after the item(s) are loaded to really have the customer over a barrel. While Caliber didn't wait until after loading, it did wait long enough (after the scheduled pickup time) to advise of the extra charge and then finally cancellation, causing my daughter and her other people involved to waste a lot of time. As it turned out, my daughter was able to get Texan Movers (did a great job) to move the refrigerator the next day for $140.. Caliber up-charged their quote at the last minute, days after the original quote was made, and then canceled at the last minute in the afternoon. Very poor customer service, does not honor their quotes, cancels at the last minute.
