Beware doing business with Anchor Plumbing. I was referred to them through HSA (Home Security of America) which is a home maintenance insurance company. We had taken over the policy earlier this year when we bought the house. The plumber technician came out on a Saturday afternoon to get my oil fired water heater to work. He arrived about 5 pm. Tech worked about 15 minutes and concluded I needed the nozzle to burner replaced. He went back to the truck and after 10 minutes came back to say this was routine maintenance and not covered under the homeowner's maintenance policy. The insurance company then called to tell me the same thing. They said I had 3 options - pay them $100 for just coming out. Pay them $175 to have them replace the nozzle. Or pay them $275 to perform the complete maintenance. In any case, it was not covered. I told the plumber to perform the whole maintenance. He went back out to the truck for another 15 minutes and came back to say he did not have the parts to do the whole maintenance. So, now my options were to pay $100 for doing nothing or pay $175 to replace the nozzle. If I wanted them to perform the whole maintenance, they would come back on Monday but I would have to pay an additional $275 on Monday. I told him this was unreasonable. I wanted them to do the whole maintenance and if they could not do it now, to come back, but I was not paying them for both service calls if it is because they were not able to fix the water heater in one call. After several calls with the "boss", Dan Cortes, who said he thought it was the nozzle, but if not we would have to take it one step at a time, I agreed to have them change the nozzle. This did nothing. Now they said I owed them $175 and would need to pay $275 to have them come back. Dan finally said he would work something out with me. I agreed for them to come back on Monday. Before the tech could leave, the lady from the plumbing shop called and insisted I must pay $175 that night. I said I would pay whatever was owed when they actually finished the job. I pointed out that they had still not determined what the problem was and that it might actually be a failed part that was covered under the insurance. She insisted I must pay and stated that she thought they didn't want to come back and work on the water heater. I started getting very suspicious about the whole arrangement at this point. In the end, I paid the tech $100 and told them not to come back because I thought they were out to rip me off. I was able to get a repair man from my fuel oil supplier to come out later that evening. In less than 5 minutes he determined that the oil pump had failed and needed to be replaced. I believe this is an item that should be covered under the insurance. In less than 30 minutes after he made the determination, it was fixed and running fine. So, was Anchor Plumbing just not competent?? Were they working with the insurance company to run up unfair and unwarranted fees? I don't know yet. I have messages into the Insurance company to get their response. I do know is that their tech was here for over 2 hours and accomplished very little other than talking on the phone to the boss a lot. He wasted a lot of my time. Just beware of Anchor Plumbing. I do not trust them and would suggest anyone to try a different plumber. As far as HSA, I still need to decide. If I find they are not reputable, I will post a conclusion under their company names.
