Unable to get a refund or credit

Ok. So my son Johnathan, who has an intellectual disability, saved money to buy an air ticket and accommodation with STA Travel in March 2020. He paid a deposit of $500 with the balance due in September. Of course, STA went belly-up due to COVID. As per STA website I contacted Deloittes who are the administrators and they told me to contact Virgin Airways-which I have TWICE! Unfortunately, as my son was NOT issued with a ticket (because he had only paid a deposit) Virgin has said they cant (wont) help and Deloittes said to get in the queue! User's recommendation: Pay by credit card!
