In sum, Budget Truck is a bait and switch scam. Last night I agreed to rent a truck online at a certain location in Houston at 9 a.m. this mornning. At 9:09 a.m. this morning I received a text saying they don’t have trucks available at that location and that I must call their customer service for assistance. So I call customer service and am told it will be upward to several hours for them to try to find a truck at a different location and if they can find a truck then I would have to drive to that location to pick it up. So I had planned a move today with workers and coordinated a truck to now learn that Budget, who advertises for easy truck rental at convenient locations, when the time comes and after an agreement has been made, does not have an available truck. Oh, and of course the service rep tells me that in the fine print of the contract this has all been explained and agreed to. Bottom line, if Budget is going to rent trucks, lead the customer to believe the rented truck will be available at the time and location agreed upon, and then at the last moment advise a truck is not available or the customer must now drive to some far off inconvenient location because Budget failed to reasonably coordinate availability of its trucks - how is this not a false representation of material fact (they will have a truck for me at a specific time and place), upon which I relied, to my detriment, and I have suffered damage (a waste of my time and day, cost of hired workers who I must pay and then let go, etc.) - which is a fraud. I will never use Budget ever again and I would strongly urge anyone who is considering using Budget Truck for a rental to not do so. If you need to rent a truck, do it somewhere else!!
