We were selling our house. Both the buyer and I dutifully and repeatedly tried to contact Dominion to switch over the owner name. I FINALLY reached a real person after days of calling; hours of waiting on the phone. The rep gave me COMPLETELY the wrong information, e.g. that my final bill would be auto debit just as my whole six years of service had been. I might add that this rather stupid person had such a thick and uninterpretable southern accent that I had to ask over &;;;;;;;;;;;;;; over again what she had said. Was it, for ex "an email" or "any mail" as in "inimail". Very frustrating! I believed, therefore, that the final bill as she called it was paid. The letter was dated Oct 4, the day after our closing, but my credit card bill wasn't coming till the end of the month. (I won't do online banking due to ID theft.) Dominion then sent a letter with the billed amount; the letter also said if I had paid the amount to ignore the letter. But I went to their website to double check that the bill was paid. The site took me round & round in circles as I searched for info on closing out an account without shutting off the electric for the next owner. NOTHING --after 3 hrs of searching!!! I was completely unwilling to spend hrs & days on their 800 number to talk to yet another ill-trained rep. Dominion by then had taken hrs & hrs of my time. I might add that over my 6 yrs, power outages and all, Dominion had taken thousands of dollars of my money, too. To my horror, DOMINION TURNED ME OVER TO A COLLECTION AGENCY. In my life I have never had anything in collections!!!!! How dare they! Their bad communications thru their representatives and their inadequate website caused this situation.I always pay my bills and always expect good customer service. And don't think I didn't grill that phone rep to be sure she knew what she was talking about. CLEARLY SHE DIDN'T. The State of Virginia needs to get this giant, horrible utility under control. If the State does nothing, every Dominion customer will continue to be held hostage by it. I vote for wind turbines NOT owned by Dominion. Horrible, horrible inhumane and uncaring slimey giant.
