This review could go on for pages but the summary of what happened was: My roommate called for a quote and they told him it would be $1,800. It was higher than paying for a Uhaul or a pod so he agreed to that quote. When the movers arrived they were late, unprofessional and slow. When my roommate was kind enough to ask if they needed anything (basically referring to water) the main guy said, "yeah a pizza would be great". He even put in a request for the type of pizza. It was one of the tackiest things ever but my roommate is a very kind person and ordered a large (per his request) pizza for him and the guy helping him. From here it went even more downhill very quickly. Once this sleazeball and his buddy had everything loaded on the truck (not very well organized by the way), he approached my roommate with a new quote - $4,000!!!! My roommate and I refused to pay that amount so he said we can cancel their services and pay the $1,800 plus a $2,000 cancellation fee or he would hold our belongings until we could pay. When we looked at the updated invoice/inventory sheet, it was pretty crazy. Our other roommate had five guitars that needed to be packed up. On the original quote it had five guitars listed but once he had all five on the truck he changed the new invoice to read that there were thirteen guitars. For one vacuum that had multiple attachments/hoses on it, they charged us for six items instead of one vacuum. I could go on and on but basically I just wanted to leave this review in the case that I might save even one person, family, etc. from going through this nightmare. They basically hold your items for ransom until you pay them the exuberant amount that is nowhere close to the amount originally quoted. My roommate called the moving company that he originally received the quote from and they said that they are just a moving "broker" and they contract all their bids out to separate companies so they would not accept any responsibility. My roommate insisted that they call the company so when the original company placed a three way call to the main mover who pulled this move, he started yelling at my roommate and told him that he was, "an fu@&ing liar". He had him on speaker so a group of us heard this exchange. Coming from Marriott hotels and knowing what true customer service means, I was absolutely floored by the entire phone conversation, not to mention the actual experience. I've had some bad experiences when it comes to customer service but I've never experienced anything quite like this in my life. Instead of the original quote of $1,800, they increased it to $4,000 and then to $4.500. They forced my roommate to drain his savings right before a move from AZ to CO which he hadn't budgeted for. We should have done more research but the main company has good reviews but Houston Movers (the contracted company who took advantage of us) had HORRIBLE reviews. They pulled this same stunt with so many people as well as holding peoples belongings until they paid four to five times the amount of the original quote. One reviewer said that they were three weeks late from their estimated arrival date so she had to go to the store to buy all new clothes since her timeline was counting on them arriving with her stuff prior to starting a new job. It blows me away that these two culprits are still in business. Stay far, far, far away from Houston Movers and please do a ton of research before hiring any other company as this was a nightmare from start to finish.
