We have a Hitachi model 50v500a television and a couple of weeks ago the color went to red and green. We tried to adjust the color, reset the color, went to the service menu and reset the set... all to no avail. Now we are looking at a set that looks as if it was photographed with a heat sensor. The service manual gave us no clues. There is no way we should be having this much trouble with a set that we spent almost 3000.00 on when we bought it.The service department has been no help. We have never been treated so poorly for what should have been a quality product. I have a 100.00 tv in my bedroom that I bought 15 years ago and it still runs. I have tried to contact Hitachi repeatedly with no response except go to a service center. We know that this will amount to 100's of dollars for them to replace parts that should have not failed in this short of time. Go to Avsforum.com and see how this product is being slammed. I am surprised that this has not resulted in a class action suit about light engines.
