Rip off hotel

We had reserved a room for 2 nights here. When getting close, and running a little later than we wanted, we called the hotel. During our conversation we were told by the front desk "we could not enter Canada without a passport" therefore were not going to be able to stay there. We had taken photo i.d. and birth certificate with us because we were told by friends that was all we needed. We found out that is indeed all we needed, and visited the Canadian side of Niagra Falls while we were there. When we called the hotel, they said they would never tell anyone what was needed to enter Canada and were going to charge us anyway, which they did. We called the hotel later that night and were told they were booked full. So, they lied to or misinformed us, charged us for the room, and still rented it out. So, they got paid twice. The hotel management was very rude and hard to deal with and called us liars, saying their front desk did not tell us that. PLEASE BEWARE!!!!!
