Poor service / incompetent medical treatment

Update by user Apr 24, 2020 Daughter finally recovered, but the bill for the short visit while they kept us out in the parking lot to run every test in the book other than the one she needed was $15000. Ripoff!!! Original review posted by user Mar 25, 2020 I just returned from Bahrain on March 8th, and were surrounded by people coughing and sneezing on the plane. Our daughter, living with us, is a preschool teacher and has also been exposed to several children who were coughing before schools closed a couple weeks ago. Since then, she has been sick for the past 14 days, and out of fear of the Coronavirus, we've taken her to two (2) different Urgent Care Centers and had video conferencing with her primary care physician. She has had difficulty breathing, chest pain, discomfort in both of her kidneys, and low grade fever. She is on all all types of medication and a breathing machine. She has been feeling worse and worse each day, and her doctor instructed us to take her to the Emergency Room (she wouldn't see her herself out of fear of the Coronavirus). Memorial Hermann told us that since she has Coronavirus symptoms, and since we live with her, that they wouldn't allow us in. So, we sat in the parking lot for 5-6 hours. Meanwhile, they performed every test in the book on her (CT scans, chest x-rays, urine / blood tests, etc) except for the Coronavirus test and the serum ferritin test, which is why we brought her in to begin with. When they discharged her, they told her that they don't know what's wrong with her, but that her breathing machine isn't doing her any good (that another doctor told her to be on in the first place), that she probably just has acid reflux, and the best thing to do was just to go home and self-quarantine (just in case). When she called to tell me she was being discharged, I called the hospital and someone called the "Charging Nurse" said that they don't do Coronovirus testing, but gave me a number to Harris County who might be able to help. I asked why he didn't tell us that when we brought her in the first place? He said that they treated her for her current presentment of symptoms. Anything else, and we should talk to her doctor! I explained that her doctor is refusing to see her, and that's why we were there in the first place, and he said that if we are not happy, then she can be readmitted for another evaluation. Can you believe that? This is really an indictment on the entire medical system, but we were assured by her physician that the ER room was the place to take her. Now, we will probably be billed thousands of dollars without any answers, received conflicting information on treatment, and are more confused than ever on what to do. I feel like we have just been conned and my daughter is still sick. I wish we could start this day all over again, and go to a different hospital. This is a complete disaster!!! User's recommendation: Don't go to Memorial Hermann ER room!!!
