Poor Service and Parts
Purchased a SC95 receiver about 3-1/4 years ago for approx. $1100 on sale (list was $1600), warranty was 2 years but website states 3 years. The sole authorized repair service on the west coast is one company, According to various stores who sell Pioneer the repair time is usually 6 months or more. Every store I contacted stated they had a problem getting customer units repaired. Pioneer and the repair company will not sell the consumer parts so you can make repairs. As it turns out the defective display is no longer available however, the repair center still suggested send the unit to them to have it checked for $110. I consider that is a rip off, I am an old technician if their is an obvious problem and you don't have the part don't tell the customer to waster their money! As it turns out Pioneer, Onkyo, Marantz, Yamaha all use the same company for repairs. If you purchase something new and the store wont replace it your either going to have to wait for service (you have to pay for shipping) or purchase another unit. Even third party warranty companies use this company. A few companies like Bose, Sony do use other repair centers but they also are few. Alas, unlike years ago in which their were many local repair centers via dealers offering service the consumer is out of luck. 5/2020 Unit out of repair, company has no parts, no used parts available, company offers no compensation nor discount on a unit out of warranty they have no parts for. User's recommendation: Try and find a store that will back up what they sell locally.
