Paying for no services

Good day. In July 2021, I requested a cancellation on my month-to-month contract on a 1tb sim card, and it is now scheduled to end at the end of August. At the end of July, I had damaged the sim card, so I can not use the sim in this last month of August before it is cancelled. I went to telkom stores and called telkom support lines, and apparently a sim swap cannot be done for a service pending cancellation. So I have no way to use the service in August. I then asked if I can then get a cancellation on the debit order so I am not charged for the month of August, and I was told no, I must pay the R1000 for the month. This is unfair. I must now pay for a service I cannot access. I don't know which way to turn now. How do I get this resolved? I know it is only 1 month of using the service, but it is still a month of 1tb of data i will lose now, and Telkkom will just take my money for nothing in return. I am not happy.
