My flat irons plates corrodes way too easily and I clean after every use

There is corrosion build up on the plates and wont go away. I make sure to clean it after every use and this time there is reddish type of material on the plates. I dont know if the plates are wearing out. The only product I use is heat protectant before and clean the iron after each use. I dont know what happened to the plates. Please help.
