Moto fast wont stay on

I was in the middle of a call and the phone quit. No sign or signal. then after a few minutes it show a circled charging sign and nothing else. i then applied the charger and it did show a smaller sign of charging....still nothing else I held the on button till it did show start up but then went off again..... what is going on?
