Mislead, overpaid for room.
1
We were on a trip to and from St Louis and had stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Ashland OH on the way there having made reservations through AAA. Decent accommodations for the price (84.xx) so on the return trip I looked up the hotel, called the number listed in this complaint and did not realize I had reached a third party until the rep gave me the price (120.xx). She also said, "they have one room left". So we booked it. Once it was obvious that I was booking through a third party I asked them if we could apply AAA membership, the rep said I would just need to present AAA or AARP membership card at the desk, and they would change the rate. Once we arrived at the hotel, the reception person said the reservation was made through a third party and that they could not even bring up the invoice to show us what we were paying let alone apply any membership discounts. And of course she had more than one room available. To reiterate the Reason of your review notes: Mislead - Rep claimed they had 1 room left, they had several. Rep said hotel would apply membership discounts upon arrival, they would not. Overpaid - Paid 84. and change on the visit one week earlier, was charge 120. and change for the second reservation. I understand that it's a clear buyer beware purchase, but I am going to contact the Holiday Inn and lodge a formal complaint as they are complicit allowing the third party with an apparent negative history to continue to mislead potential customers. User's recommendation: Make your reservation ahead of time, always ask if you have reached the actual hotel or if your speaking with a third party.
