Lost Rewards

I thought I would use my rewards to buy gift cards. My wife accidentally threw them out because there was not tracking provided, no email confirmation, erroneous timetable for delivery, and the envelope was a nondescript, white envelope that looks like junk mail. $400 worth of cards! I called customer service twice and on both occasions they said it wouldn't be a problem. Received a call today from rewards services, Capital One will not reimburse my points nor reissue the gift cards. That's how you support families in a pandemic? A multi-billion dollar company. User's recommendation: Reimbursement of Rewards Points or gift cards.
