La Jolla Shores Hotel

Over 25 years we visited the Shores Inn Restaurant good food, decent price, great view of the ocean. The Hotel looks fantastic ... on the outside. Finally this year we chose to celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary and booked a weekend at the Hotel in April. We also booked a overnight stay for Dec 2017 for my son and daughter in law to stay at a day and a half prior to leaving for their Honeymoon. We checked in, walked into the room and were immediately over come by a STRONG musty odor . It seemed to permeate the entire room. We did discover the bottom inside portion of the bathroom door was swollen as if it absorbed a lot of water. We called the front desk and received the only other room on the very noisy street side of the Hotel. Did I mention that the decor what straight out stuck in a crusty beach motif from the mid 70's. We debated on canceling the Honeymoon arrangements for the newlyweds, but never did. Wrong frigging move. The Honeymooners checked in. They also found the decor suitable for a group of 80 something church ladies. There room had a musty odor as well. They tolerated it better than my wife and I did. Unique to their experience was the toilet that could not flush, which they found out about the hard way. The Front desk said there was nothing they could do as it was a weekend and no repair person could be called. Guess they don't have 24 hour plumbing companies in this hyper rich California beach community. They stayed the night, and visited with some friends during the day. Upon return they discovered while the bed was made the staff did not change the used sheets. Guess how the honeymooners figured that one out. Needless to say they checked out early, despite our pre-paying for the room on Expedia La Jolla Shores Inn charged this young couple the full cost of the rooms. A matter which I resolved after getting around their Hotel Phone Operator who was offended at my micro aggressions towards his employer because of the above mentioned experiences. My being upset personally offended him. I did not care. All this and without some discount of some sort this DUMP charges upwards of $300 a night, more if your room is on the ocean side. Yet they seem to be nearly flly booked.
